About

Patti and John have enjoyed many adventures in their forty-six years together. Their last four adventures have been cycling trips, riding recumbent trikes manufactured by a British company, “ICE Trikes”. The bikes were purchased from a bike store on the south coast of England, and they are put into a storage facility wherever John and Patti end each adventure. So far, the trikes have carried them 678 km from Weymouth on the English Channel to Cambridge (Fall 2022); 1060 km from Cambridge through Oxford and Cardiff, to Liverpool and Chester in England and Wales (Spring 2023); by ferry to Ireland then trike to Cork and Killarney, hopping back on a ferry to Brittany, cycling to Bordeaux in France, 1700 km, (Fall 2023); and most recently 1734 km from Bordeaux through the Pyrenees and occasionally on the Caminos in Spain and Portugal, ending in Lisbon (Spring 2024). (Click on the “Travellog” tab, above, for photos and descriptions of that trip. It was a doozy.)

Fall 2024 will take Patti and John from Lisbon through southern Spain (this time some miles will be by van with the trikes in the back so they can see more cities – Cordoba! Malaga! Granada! Cartagena! Almeria! Alicante! Valencia!) and they’ll end up in Montpellier at the end of November when the trikes will go, once again, into storage. Challenges? Fall 2024’s trip is roughly 2400 km, but only 1430 of it will be on three wheels. And on Day 33 – November 16th – of the trip we will climb 1500 metres to cross over the Pyrenees back into France. We’ve got this!
